چکیده

The syndrome of autonomic dysreflexia often occurs in quadriplegic subjects and is characterized by paroxysmal hypertension, headache, vasoconstriction below and flushing of the skin above the level of transection, and bradycardia. These attacks may cause hypertensive encephalopathy, cerebral vascular accidents, and death. In five patients during crises, the mean arterial pressure changed from 95 to 154 mm Hg, heart rate 72 to 45 beats/min, cardiac output 4.76 to 4.70 L/min, and peripheral resistance 1650 to 2660 dynes-sec-cm-5. In eight subjects the control plasma, red cell,

The meaning of dopamine p - hydroxylase in essential hypertension

1. Resting plasma dopamine B-hydroxylase (DBH) activity and haemodynamic parameters were studied in untreated borderline (twenty-nine) and permanent (twenty-seven) essential hypertensive patients. DBH was also measured in sixty-three apparently healthy subjects. 2. Mean DBH values were not significantly different between the groups. 3. Cardiac output, cardiopulmonary blood volume and the cardio...

A System for Continuous Estimating and Monitoring Cardiac Output via Arterial Waveform Analysis

Background: Cardiac output (CO) is the total volume of blood pumped by the heart per minute and is a function of heart rate and stroke volume. CO is one of the most important parameters for monitoring cardiac function, estimating global oxygen delivery and understanding the causes of high blood pressure. Hence, measuring CO has always been a matter of interest to researchers and clinicians. Sev...

Antiadrenergic therapy: special aspects in hypertension in the elderly.

The effect of antiadrenergic treatment with methyldopa was studied in 17 patients with established essential hypertension who were subdivided with respect to age in a group younger (n = 10; mean age, 47 +/- 2.4 (SEM) years; and a group older than 60 years of age (n = 7, mean age, 67 +/- 2.8 SEM). The fall in arterial pressure was associated with a significant (p less than 0.05) decrease in card...

Plasma renin activity in end-stage kidney disease.

Plasma renin activity, fluid and electrolyte balance, and hemodynamic conditions were measured in seven hypertensive patients with end-stage renal disease before and after five exchanges of peritoneal dialytic fluids which removed large amounts of water and sodium, sodium but little water, and little water and sodium, respectively. The subjects had normal plasma renin activity, severe anemia, h...
